What is an SSL Certificate?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology that establishes an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This encryption ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral, protecting sensitive information from hackers.

SSL Certificate Types

Let’s Encrypt SSL

This is a standard Secure Sockets Layer certificate, issued for free and valid for a few months. After it expires, our system will automatically renew it for you. It gives you encryption and is recommended for small size websites that do not engage in eCommerce or online payments.

Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL

In addition to the above, this free type allows you to protect all subdomains of your domain (including your main domain) with the same single certificate.

Premium Wildcard SSL

This certificate is valid for a full year year. It is issued by a trusted SSL vendor (GlobalSign), protects all subdomains of your domain, and includes a dynamic site seal. It is recommended for business sites that engage in financial transactions because it gives you validation from an authority (on top of encryption).
