We have talked about on-page SEO. The other aspect – off-page SEO – means that there are factors that occur off your website, such as receiving backlinks from other sites, that will impact your website and webpage(s) rankings.
It’s not so much the amount of links that your site gets that matters, in order to boost your rankings on search engines (SEs), but much more the “quality” of your inbound links (for instance, are they just reciprocal links or genuine one-way links? are they “no-follow” type? do they include your brand name? etc.) and the “reputation” of the linker, such as its (high) G PageRank (PR).
For that reason, if you want to to reinforce your online presence locally, for your brand name (search-type), you will need to get listed on citation sources for local businesses (on top of getting indexed by SEs).
When doing so, your submission sites listings links to your website help your site to get a higher ranking on SEs (for your brand name), and who knows, visitors of an actual business directory might find out about your brand and pay a visit to your website or give you a call.
We do not recommend that you try to find a tool that would bulk-submit to hundreds of directories for a fixed fee. You would end up with some listings very poorly completed since each citation site has its own set of fields to fill-in, allowance for a certain amount of characters, etc. and you will certainly also be involved with some poor quality links that will be detrimental to your site. Again, it’s better to have no more than ten good-only links (to start with) rather than a few hundred ones that include some bad ones in the bunch… Best practice is to submit your listing manually, one directory at a time, and to keep this goal as a long term one.
